4 ways to effectively train staff

Yesterday was the dawn and Jeff’s long day. With the rest of the sales team, they spent five hours learning a new piece of software that would make their job easier.

Although they had to deal with all the information, Dawn and Jeff returned to work and were excited to use what they had learned. They sit at their desks and open new software on their computers. After a while, dawn turned to look at Jeff’s blank look on his face.

Traditional training methods are not in line with expectations. In a study of more than 200 employees in 2015 InterCall survey, a third of people said that their company’s technology is not the effective use of time, and a third of people said they had no interest in or involved.

Fortunately, as technology improves, employers are more likely to use interactive training models to cater to different learning skills. By combining multiple training methods, employers can develop more effective ways to provide employees with the skills they need.

Here are four ways to better train your employees and the benefits each technology offers:

1. Combining on-site training and online training.

Face-to-face and online training have inherent benefits. The InterCall survey found that 50 per cent of employers thought site training helped them retain information. It makes sense to consider that trainers can answer staff questions while introducing material.

But once the trainers leave the office and employees try to apply new skills, who will eliminate any confusion? That may be why 48 percent of respondents said they still want to be able to review content in the future.

By integrating personal and online resources, employees can learn more about information during training and provide references when problems arise in the future.

2. Provide practical training.

In a 2013 skills survey of more than 1,000 office workers, 33 percent said they like to learn by feeling or experiencing what they are learning. Hands-on training gives employees the opportunity to apply what they learn before translating their skills into daily work.

Whenever possible, let employees try and try new skills in a controlled environment. This will help them build confidence, without risking inexperience that can lead to harmful mistakes.

3. Add mobile training applications.

More and more jobs now have some flexibility. In September, the data global workplace analysis found that up to 25 percent of the remote work of U.S. employees was in part.

Unable to review the training information they want, employees are forced to pass complex topics. It also denies that employees take time to process what they learn, which is an important part of the learning process.
